Week 13: Social Media
If you're new to my blog, I like to talk about ways I have tried to better my mental well being and how to juggle all of the responsibilities of being a working student. This week I want to talk about social media and ways I have tried to limit my usage. In today’s world, we are constantly bombarded by information. Between news updates, social media, emails, and the never-ending scroll of entertainment, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed by digital noise.
Lately, I have been attempting to embrace a more digital minimalism approach. One simple change I made was to limit my exposure to constant news updates, which often left me feeling anxious or disconnected from my own life. For me, one of the best ways to practice digital minimalism is by spending most of my time on Pinterest. Unlike other platforms that can suck me into a spiral of negativity or endless comparisons, Pinterest offers a peaceful space where I can curate my own interests and inspirations. I create boards filled with ideas that align with whatever my interests currently are. Pinterest doesn’t have the constant influx of breaking news or viral debates that can overwhelm my mind. It’s simply a tool for self-expression and planning.
Staying on Pinterest has allowed me to disconnect from the news cycle and the chaotic world of social media that often feels like it demands my constant attention. While it’s easy to feel guilty about not staying “in the loop,” I’ve found that avoiding the noise of current events has actually been a refreshing change, every once in awhile. In the end, digital minimalism is all about choosing what I want to engage with, instead of letting technology dictate things in my life.

This is great! I've also been disconnecting a bit from social media (as I'm sure you've noticed with my slower response time on snapchat). While I haven't fully deleted my socials yet, I'm pretty inactive on everything except the occasional insta post and trying to make sure I respond when someone texts me on snap. I've noticed overall I've been a lot happier and way less distracted from school since.
