Week 12: Hiking and clearing your mind
If you're new to my blog, I like to talk about ways I have tried to better my mental well being and how to juggle all of the responsibilities of being a working student. This week I want to talk about one of my favorite hobbies, which is hiking! As the weather warms up, I've been getting out more often to hike and explore new spots. Hiking has become a great way for me to clear my head and escape the constant buzz of work and school. It’s a simple way to disconnect, get some fresh air, and give my mind a break. Plus, it’s a low-pressure way to fit in physical activity, making it easy to incorporate into my busy schedule.
Whether I’m hiking solo with my AirPods in or hitting the trails with friends, each experience offers something different. Solo hikes give me the space to think and unwind, while hiking with others adds a social element that’s also refreshing. Either way, it's an activity that fits into my busy life and helps me reset mentally.
Since I live in Pekin, I often go to McNaughton Park due to it being easily accessible and offering multiple path options. I recently have "tried" to take up disc golf as well since there is a great course in the park that includes a scenic walk. Unfortunately, I don't see myself being a professional anytime soon.... Another recommendation on my list is Forest Nature Park Center, located just 15 minutes from campus. This pretty park also offers multiple trails with different levels of difficulty and offers classes for both adults and children. There's also a super cute gift shop too! I also enjoy going to Potawatomi Trail Loop in Peoria Heights and Starved Rock in LaSalle County. My bucket list for this summer includes Buffalo Rock State Park and St Louis Canyon Falls. Let me know what your recommendations are!
I love Starved Rock! I am not sure if you have ever been to Matthiessen State Park but it is super close to Starved Rock and is super pretty! Definitely recommend it.
ReplyDeleteI really need to go to McNaughton! I keep meaning to drive over there and hike since I've only heard good things about it.
