Week 1: New Years Resolutions
A lot of people, myself included, create New Year's resolutions with the intention of improving their lives or enhancing their well-being. As the year draws to a close, it's a time for reflection and goal-setting for the future. This time last year, I decided to take a different approach—one that would be more achievable. Rather than setting unrealistic goals, I focused on making my resolutions more realistic and attainable. I aimed to create resolutions that I could actually stick to, giving myself the best chance to see real progress and growth. Instead of overwhelming myself with an endless list of things to change, I kept my focus on what was truly important to me and how I could improve in small, manageable ways. With this approach I decided that my resolutions would be to better my mental and physical health as well as take every opportunity presented to me to travel.
The first few months of the year, especially January, are often the most challenging for my mental health. I find myself experiencing what some refer to as "seasonal sadness." I won’t lie—it's been incredibly tough the past two days to get out of bed when my alarm goes off. Waking up when it's still pitch black outside is something I struggle with, and I’m sure many others can relate to that challenge. However, despite the difficulty of getting started, the class has been incredibly beneficial for both my physical and mental health. The 45-minute workout includes a mix of Barre, sculpting yoga, chair yoga, vinyasa, and heated options. Personally, going to the gym on my own and trying to create my own workout routine often feels like a chore, and I find it hard to stay consistent. But with yoga, I actually enjoy showing up and appreciate the workout I get while I'm there. I think having an instructor-led class really helps keep me accountable and consistent, which makes all the difference. I also notice that waking up that early gives me a sense of accomplishment right from the start of the day. It sets a positive tone for the rest of my day, making me feel productive and motivated. My goal is to keep consistently attending this class and continue prioritizing my physical and mental health through other activities as well. By making this a regular part of my routine, I hope to build momentum and stick with my resolutions throughout the year.
Hi Morgan. I think what you are doing regarding new year resolutions is amazing! I started to set realistic goals for myself starting in the middle of December. I normally fail at new years resolutions so I decided to start a bit earlier than the new year. So far I have been pretty consistent. I look forward to hearing more about your progress with your resolutions! Taking care of your physical and mental health is so important and I am glad you are prioritizing yours.
