Week 8: Travel

Traveling has always been something I’ve found to be incredibly refreshing, both for my mind and my spirit. Whether it’s a quick getaway to a nearby spot or an international adventure, exploring new places has a way of helping me reset and recharge. The simple act of changing my surroundings offers me a break from daily life and allows me to experience things that boost my mood and mental well-being. One of the most impactful ways travel has benefited my mental health is by giving me a fresh perspective. Stepping outside of my usual environment forces me to look at things from a new angle. It’s like a mental reset button, helping me break away from routine stress and see life in a different light. The change of pace allows me to focus on the present moment, which has helped me reduce anxiety and clear my mind.

Last summer, I had the chance to study abroad in Thailand and Singapore. It was my first time traveling out of the country, and when I signed up, I didn’t know anyone else who was going. I’ll admit, I was a little nervous about stepping out of my comfort zone and navigating the unknown. But looking back, that trip was one of the most transformative experiences I’ve had. It pushed me to grow in ways I hadn’t imagined, teaching me about new cultures, foods, and perspectives, all while helping me become more confident and adaptable. The experience truly shaped the way I view the world and myself.

This week, I traveled to Denmark, and it’s been an eye-opening experience. Copenhagen’s blend of modern architecture and historical sites has been great to explore, but what stands out most is the lifestyle here. Denmark places a strong emphasis on balance—there’s a real focus on work-life balance, outdoor activities, and taking time for personal well-being. People here prioritize their mental health by embracing slower-paced living and connecting with nature, which has been refreshing to see. It’s a reminder of how important it is to make space for relaxation and enjoy the little things in life. Denmark’s approach to living definitely seems to contribute to a calmer, more positive mindset.

  1. I am such a creature of habitat and I love my routines so when it comes to traveling I personally struggle because it makes me break my habits and routines. I do think it is beneficial for me though as it causes me to get out of my comfort zone and try something new. I also just love learning about different cultures and immersing myself into it. I have had such a great time this week traveling abroad with you in Denmark. It has been such an eye opening experience to see how another country operates.
